7/1/2023 0 Comments Folio watch backplate removalJust choose scissors with blunt tips to avoid injuring yourself. Scissors often have small enough tips to reach your watch’s back screws and twist them as a specialized screwdriver would. If rubber balls do not provide enough grip, a good pair of scissors is a great alternative. Unscrewing Your Watch Backing with Scissors Rubber ball will then help you put the back plate back on the watch by pressing and turning it in the clockwise direction. You can safely use your finger to actually remove the back once it becomes loose enough. However, you should not use the ball to remove the back. Therefore, you can remove the back by firmly and quickly turning the ball in that direction. Most watch models loosen when turned counterclockwise. Applying this pressure in increments will avoid accidentally damaging the watch. You then apply enough pressure to move the ball against the backing to establish a strong grip. With the watch in place, you just press the ball firmly into the backplate, especially into the screws. You can also use a towel as a cushion if you have an expensive or fragile watch. While you can do this with the watch in your hands, you will find placing the watch on a flat surface more comfortable and efficient. You can even use duct tape wrapped around a tennis ball with the sticky side out if you cannot get a rubber ball. Along as the ball is not made from hard materials, it should work. You can even use stress back for this purpose. Most rubber balls can easily hold on to the back plate long enough for you to pry them off. You will need a soft, pliable, tacky rubber ball. If the watch uses a screw-back design, you can just use a rubber ball to remove it. Using a Rubber Ball on a Screw-Back Watch Source: Otherwise, you could break both your thumb and the watch. If the back does not come off easily, you should try another method. With pressure and patience, the back should come off the watch. The watch should rest in your other hand while you do this, and should never try harder than you need to avoid breaking your nail. Either way, you do this by pushing your nail into the crack and try to pry it open. Otherwise, you can use any point on the back you can reach. If the watch has an indentation for the hinge, you should focus your efforts on it. The only real restriction is that the watch cannot have screws holding the back to the case. On cheap, simple watches, your thumbnail is the perfect tool. Here are a few of these methods you could try to remove the back from your watch. However, you can still open a few watch styles even if you do not have a good knife around. The above method will work with most watches with or without a notch. When that happens, you can remove the watch from the clamp and use the knife to pry the back off the watch. With enough pressure, the back will separate from the case. With your fingers above the knife, gently push the knife down with the palm of your hand. You do this by inserting the edge against the break between the back and the case. With the watch secured, you can then use the knife to pry off the backplate. There should be just enough room so the watch back to come off. The watch should stay loose but firm as you tighten the clamp around it so you do not break the crystal. You want the watch situated perpendicular to the clamp and table with the exposed side up. Also, a small kitchen knife will work if you do not have a razor blade.Īfter wrapping the cloth around three sides of the watch, you can place it within the clamp on your table. You will just need to take more precautions to not break the watch. You want a clamp that has padded ends, but any clap will do. How to Open Your Watchįor most watches, you will just need a six-inch woodworker’s clamp, a sharp penknife, a piece of cloth, and a table. You can exploit this difference to open watches without back notches. Fortunately, most watches have a height difference between the backplate and the watch case. More often than not, today’s watches have no notch, raised lip, or pry area. Though it makes fashion sense to have this, it becomes an issue when you must replace the battery or fix something inside. To that end, modern watches use battery-powered mechanics with sleek, smooth designs. While they no longer have a utility purpose in these days of smartphone proliferation, a good watch still holds great value in fashion. This cutting style is prone to melting or burning your material, especially if your job requires many passes. However, because of the bit's design and upward-pulling motion, it can fight the clamping system you use with your material, especially if your material is thin.ĭown-cut bits push the chips downward (towards the material). It pulls heat away from the bit, and is a good choice for plastics, metals, or other materials that are prone to melting or burning. Up-cut bits expel the cut material upward and smooths the bottom of the cut pass. The cutting style of a milling bit identifies which way the material chips are removed from your project, in addition to which side of the cut surface is smoothed. It is most important to make sure your bit fits in your spindle/router (shank diameter) and then use choose the bit with the right cutting diameter for your project. Shank diameters and cutting diameters are not always the same. If your job has detailed elements that cannot be cut by your selected bit, Easel will recommend you select a smaller bit. When selecting the right bit for your project, aim to select a bit with the largest possible cutting diameter for your job. Cutting diameters can range anywhere from a few inches (for leveling surfaces) to 1/64" or 1/32" (for very fine details). The cutting dimeter is the overall cut diameter of your bit. Our 1/8" collet for the DeWalt 611 is a common upgrade many of our customers make as they start doing more complicated, detailed work. If you want to use bits that have a smaller shank diameter, you'll need to buy a collet and nut adapter for your router. For instance, the DeWalt 611 router holds bits that are 1/4" in shank diameter. Many routers are designed to hold a specific diameter bit. This end of the bit is inserted into your router. The shank diameter is the diameter of the non-cutting part of your bit. You can learn more about what bits to use with your material here. Different materials have different qualities that impact your carving and your bit's behavior. Please keep in mind that the type of material you're using with your machine is the most important factor in determining what bit you should use. Understanding what different bits do and how they work can help you choose the right bit for your project. If you're new to CNC machines and carving, the information below outlines the various qualities of bits. (Drill bits cut into or through a piece of material.) End mills come in a variety of styles and are designed to help you get the desired effect for your specific project. They are designed to cut horizontally (laterally) across a surface. End mills, also called milling bits, are the most commonly-used bits used with CNC machines. 7/1/2023 0 Comments Lambda calculusThe y is a free variable and didn’t have its name changed. a y are α-equivalent because the only variable name that changed is the name of the bound variable x. The reason why these functions are not α-equivalent is because even though their bodies are the same, in fn1 the variable z is free (it is present in the outermost context) while in fn2 the variable z is bound (it is passed in as an argument, which means it’s bound to the metavariable z). The following functions, for example, are alpha-equivalent: In Lambda Calculus we say that two functions are alpha-equivalent when they vary only by the names of the bound variables. Now, let’s continue our amazing adventure through the fascinating world of logic. This will be perhaps the most practical post of this series and will serve as a basis for us to understand more abstract concepts in the future. In this post we’ll see how to actually evaluate lambda calculus and get to know all the important concepts behind it, such as alpha-equivalence, alpha-reduction, beta-reduction, beta-reduxes, and the beta-normal form, which will allow us to really understand what is going on when a certain expression gets executed. To make sure you’ll have the necessary knowledge about Lambda Calculus’ syntax you will probably want to read the first post in this series before coming back to this one. This is the second blog post in my series about Lambda Calculus. Lucas Fernandes da Costa at London, United Kingdom |
